Fort Lauderdale

Yoga for first responders in Broward County.

First responders face unique occupational stress, physical strain, and high-intensity demands every single shift. Designed specifically for police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and nurses, this practice focuses directly on nervous system regulation, mobility, and functional physical recovery.

Classes are straightforward, shift-friendly, and stripped of dogma or spiritual jargon. Sessions focus on down-regulating the sympathetic stress response, alleviating spinal compression from heavy gear, and improving sleep quality. The language is plain, the structure is predictable, and there is no expectation to perform or keep up with anyone else.

Sara Grossman has extensive experience teaching specialized trauma-informed yoga for tactical and healthcare professionals. Her training in the Krishnamacharya lineage means the physical practice is intelligent and progressive, built around what your body actually needs after a shift. You can read more about Sara Grossman and her work with first responders across Broward County.

Both one-on-one private sessions and dedicated department group sessions are available. Private sessions come to your station, your home, or another space that works for you across Broward County. Department sessions are built around your shift rotation, so the same people can practice together on a schedule that respects the demands of the job.

You do not need to be flexible, experienced, or in uniform. You need clothes you can move in and a willingness to breathe. Props and modifications are always available, and you will not be adjusted without being asked first. Nothing in a session is mandatory, and you can rest whenever your body asks for it.

Studio classes are also open to you at Prana Hot Yoga and Bodyworks on SE 17th St, with Yin on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Heated Vinyasa on Friday evening. There is a live Monday morning Zoom class at 9 am Eastern for those whose shifts make evening classes hard. Your first class is free, so you can see if the approach fits before you commit.
